Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, born April 26, 1991 also known professionally by the name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the debut female to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Dreamville Records released her debut EP, Pho, in October 2016 where she started to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album was released May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox posted her songs online in 2012 after she released her five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. In 2014 she continued to share her music over the internet including her independently release single Bound. On July 21st, the 21st of July in 2015 Omen included her in Elephant Eyes' track Sweat It Out. J. Cole was interested in her talents and was keen to use it together with Rihanna. On the 8th of December, it was confirmed that she had been officially signed by Dreamville Records. Backseat was a track she co-wrote with Cozz on the album collaboratively titled Revenge of the Dreamers II. On October 21, 2016 her Pho EP was released. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's song Change and performed as an opening act on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in 2017. In 2018, she was able to guest feature on two of her songs along with labelmates EarthGang on Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox's debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on 16 July 2018. The first single, called Whipped Cream of the album dropped on September 5, 2018 with an accompanying music video. Then, in November, she released the singles 40 Shades of Choke & Grampa. The 13th of November, she released two more singles called No One as well as Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track that she recorded together with Cole on Creed II's soundtrack on the 16th of November. The track was released as a standalone single in February 2019, to coincide with the release of her debut album. In February of 2019, a music clip was made available for the track. It has already received nearly 3 millions views on YouTube within the initial week. As a supporting act, she toured in concert with 6LACK in December of 2018 for their From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
